reCONvene brings a community together online during Covid-19

Boston, MA—July 5, 2020 — The New England Science Fiction Association (NESFA) proudly announces its first online convention, reCONvene, hosted online Saturday, August 15, 2020 from 11am- 5pm (U.S. Eastern Time).

At a time when science fiction and fantasy fans and professionals can’t get together in person, reCONvene is reimagining the way the community interacts. “Having speakers participate online removes many of the barriers of participation, opening up the possibilities of who’ve been able to invite,” says Convention Chair, Erin Underwood. “It also allows us to try new things you wouldn’t be able to do at an in-person convention, like tour an artist’s studio.”

The one-day, six hour convention will offer exceptional programming including science talks, science fiction and fantasy panels, gaming, and author chats (known as kaffeeklatsches) led by world-renowned authors, artists, fans, educators, and scientists. reCONvene will welcome over 50 speakers to the online program. A partial list includes:

  • Joe Abercrombie
  • Steven Barnes
  • P. Djèlí Clark
  • Guy Consolmagno
  • Aliette de Bodard
  • Alan Dean Foster
  • Victor LaValle
  • Aleron Kong
  • Sharon Lee
  • Rebecca Roanhorse
  • Alastair Reynolds
  • John Scalzi
  • Karl Schroeder
  • Vandana Singh
  • Melinda Snodgrass
  • Charles Stross
  • Adrian Tchaikovsky
  • Martha Wells
  • Eric Wilkerson
  • Terri Windling
  • and more!

ReCONvene is an all-volunteer convention. Memberships for reCONvene are $10 and help to cover the basic costs of the event. Any additional funds received will go toward future program costs for reCONvene and Boskone such as American Sign Language services, the New Voices Program, and memberships for those in need.
